The word theotokos would have been more glistening appropriate to combat and condemn arianism, which was denying altogether the Divine Nature of Jesus Christ, but not against nestorianism, which has accepted the Divinity of Jesus Christ, only in hiatus inside the Hypostasis of Jesus Christ.
As well, the interpretation of the word theotokos is inaccurate, Mother of God is too skulduggery vague and inconclusive, is not grasping who is Holy Virgin Mary, the Mother of the Only Begotten Word of God, incarnated, with a human soul. Too far fetched interpretations of the word theotokos can derail to uninspired catholic heretical deviations, like immaculata conceptia, one of the five elements of the catholic heretical system led by filioque, or could be misinterpreted to an irrelevant Mother of a conspicuous god with no specific determination, the Mother of something holistic and abstract, which in our times of spiritual deceiving and confusion, of crossborder ecumenical efforts to globalize a sole religion, at any cost, this esperanto-like word can be lethal, and i strongly not recommend it, as obsolete, to say the least.

The intentions of our holy Orthodox Fathers are very clear, to demonstrate that Holy Virgin Mary is the Mother of Christ, but the word itself has been emptied out of all its spiritual meanings, and against the nestorians, which have accepted the Divine Nature of Jesus Christ, a different word would have been more appropriate. I look forward to suggestions for the latin word which would express that Holy Virgin Mary is the Mother of the Only Begotten Word of God, incarnated, with a human soul.
At the Third Ecumenical Council of Ephesus was also sanctioned the word ‘Emmanuel’, about Jesus Christ, which is probably of jewish origins, and which is translated by ‘God is with us’.
